Texas in the Civil War Project

You will work with a partner to create a presentation on Texas's role in the Civil War.
You will use the program Museum Box to create a box containing 8 cubes. Each cube should have images, text, etc. on each of the following topics. Click here to see a tutorial on how to create a Museum Box.
  • Secession (Why did Texas want to secede from the Union? Were all Texans in favor of secession? Include Sam Houston's view.)
  • Battles (Where were battles of the Civil War fought in Texas? Include 3 battles of the Civil War that were fought in Texas on your cube. First Battle of Galveston, Second Battle of Galveston, Battles of Sabine Pass, Battle of  Palmito Ranch, and the Battle of Brownsville.)
  • Leaders (Who were some of the important leaders during the Civil War and how did they contribute to the war effort? Include 3 leaders on your cube. Choose from John Bell Hood, John Reagan, Francis Lubbock, Thomas Green and John Magruder)
  • Life on the Home Front (What sacrifices/adjustments did people living in Texas during the war have to endure?)
  • Slavery in Texas (What was life like for enslaved people living in Texas?)
  • Union Sympathizers (How were Union sympathizers treated during the Civil War? What happened to them?)
  • War Legacy (What are some of the most important legacies to come out of the Civil War? Include the three Amendments to the U.S. Constitution (13th, 14, and 15th), the emancipation of slaves, and Juneteenth)

You will present your final project to the class. Your project needs to be finished and ready to present on April 7th & 8th. Your museum box will be given a test grade. You will also be given a daily grade each day in class based on the amount of time you spend working on your project.
